What is a transthoracic Echocardiogram (TTE)?
An echocardiogram, also known as a cardiac ultrasound or heart ultrasound, is a non-invasive examination that uses ultrasound to obtain moving images of the heart, and to assess the structure and function of the heart.
Echocardiography allows your referring doctor to obtain information about the heart's structure and function, including the chambers, valves, heart muscle and how effectively the heart is pumping.
Ultraheart performs transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE), the standard form of echocardiography, in which images are obtained using an ultrasound probe positioned on the chest.

What Happens During an Echocardiogram?
You will be asked to remove clothing from the upper body as required for the examination and will be provided with appropriate privacy and covering.
Small ECG electrodes may be placed on your chest so the cardiac sonographer can monitor your heart rhythm during imaging.
Ultrasound gel is applied to the chest and a handheld ultrasound probe is moved across different areas to obtain images of the heart. You will generally spend part of the examination lying on your left side and may occasionally be asked to change position or adjust your breathing to help obtain the clearest images.
The examination is non-invasive and does not use ionising radiation. Ultrasound is used to create the images.

No special preparation is generally required for a routine transthoracic echocardiogram.

Report Results
Your echocardiogram is reviewed and reported by an experienced cardiologist.
Final reports are generally provided to your referring doctor within 24-48 hours.
Your doctor can then discuss the findings with you in the context of your symptoms, medical history and other invesitgations.
